Wallowa County Sustainable Forestry

Wallowa Resources, a non-profit in Enterprise, has been assisting local mills in Wallowa County to process timber from small diameter trees as part of an effort to improve forest health in the region.  Wallowa Resources was created by the community of Wallowa County as a non-profit organization to provide leadership in sustainability by promoting community, forest and watershed health and creating and maintaining family wage jobs and businesses.   Wallowa Resources provides technical and financial assistance to private landowners, public land mangers, and local businesses including Joseph Timber Company.

The project team worked to achieve a balance of natural resources, family wage jobs, and community vitality. A number of partners assembled to sign a declaration of cooperation to support the project. These partners included state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and local businesses.
