Planned and unplanned traffic incident response can benefit from greater coordination among agencies. Incident clearance times can be improved by responders working together to align priorities and debrief response efforts. Moving incidents off the road faster leads to safer conditions for incident responders, reduced congestion and quicker movement of people and goods, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions from idling cars and trucks.
The Greater Portland Area Traffic Incident Management (TIM) project focused on forming a cross-jurisdictional team of traffic incident managers and responders in Oregon Department of Transportation Region 1. This team created a forum to review and resolve regional priorities, progress, and issues related to traffic incident management.
